to have, no matter where you live or are. when a fire breaks loose. the first thing that comes to your mind is what to do. and the 2nd thing that comes to mind will answer your 1st question with the Fire Extinguisher.

It's not sexy, but it can save your life and the lives of your loved ones. No home should be without at least one. I initially thought I didn't want an extinguisher with a hose but, after being in a real nasty fire at my home, I'm convinced it will MAKE you overcome your panic and focus on fighting the fire at the base. Don't want to preach, but please get at least one. This is a quality manufacturer so no worries.
