5 out of 5 stars So far so good.   July 12, 2010

By biggest concern with this product was false alarms. My old alarms had been going off at random times, and 10+ years old-- which is why I needed to replace them. I've had two of these units installed for ~3 weeks and not one false alarm. After reading the reviews on Amazon I decided to go with the the Kidde brand, vs. the First Alert I could buy locally. I was pretty proud of myself, as a female new to home improvement projects, that I was able to successfully install two of these without any issues. I have 4 more left to install. There were only 3 wires I had to worry about and it was just a matter of connecting them. I would recommend you have a wire stripper. The first one I installed without one (using a scissors to strip the wire), and borrowed a wire stripper from the neighbor to do the second one. I've since bought my own so I'm ready to do the last 4.

The smoke alarm was purchased to replace one which was old. It was exactly like it and fit like a charm. Got the product quickly also.

5 out of 5 stars Fire Alarms   May 17, 2010

These fire alarms are excellent and the last ones lasted the whole ten years as recommended. You don't know how well they work until you have a fire, so I hope I don't get a chance to see how they really work.

I installed them very easily as the previous units were earlier similar models and all the wiring was already in place. Nicley done by Kidde as it made installation very easy to accomplish.

I am writing this to say 1 thing about these....DON'T BUY THESE, DON'T LET YOUR CONTRACTOR INSTALL THESE, AND BE READY TO WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT IF YOU GET THESE!!

I have had these in my house since 2007 when I was required by law due to an addition I was building to have hardwired smokes put in the house. The contractor followed the law and installed this unit!! They have been replace once already and same issue... if there is any and I mean any dust, a spider or a small power surge or the wind blows the wrong way these units go off. It is 2:17 am and once again they have gone off and waken up my whole family and scared my dog into her crate that she never goes in.

They have had batteries replaced every 6 months, they have been dusted, cleaned in ever way I know how and still they go off, and one when goes they all go. These as of now have been all pulled down batteries yanked and I will be replacing them in the morning myself with some other unit... which I have no idea.

Just because someone says hey look they are easy to install doesn't mean anything just wait these are a nightmare.

Was able to replace old units with new ones but still able to use the old bases and they fit together perfectly. Easy and simple and fairly priced with very quick shipment. Very happy customer.
