I got this to replace an existing wired smoke alarm. Took all of about 2 minutes to unscrew the two screws holding the old mounting plate and put the mounting plate for this one in. The existing wires were connected to a jack that fit into this, so I just had to plug it in, tighten the screws and done. Taking the ladder out and putting it away took longer.

I needed a hardwired smoke alarm without the battery back-up, it is perfect for those 'hard to reach' places such as the cathedral ceiling. Before I bought the Kidde hardwire smoke alarm, the previous smoke alarm was chirping in the middle of the night and I had to go to the garage at 2AM to get the ladder. With the new alarm, I won't have to worry about it again. However, I also put a battery back up alarm in a place that I can easily reach.

I called kidde and this was the direct replacement for my 3 old alarms (20yr old). Worked great. Easy install. System must have all units and the red wire hooked up before it works correctly so don't get excited until install is complete. Like how all go off together and can be muted easily till you clear out the oven smoke from the burnt pizza HAHA . good product.

I bought this detector to replace the builder units. I returned them when I realized they had no battery backup.
