Amazon.com Product Description The BRK hardwire smoke alarm with photoelectric sensor is designed to reduce common "nuisance" alarms. It's an excellent choice for installations in or near kitchens, near fireplaces, or in hallways directly outside bathrooms, utility rooms, or other areas prone to steam. This alarm is also a popular choice for hotel/motel applications. The 7010B AC-powered smoke alarm with photoelectric sensor includes these features: - Photoelectric sensor which is more effective at detecting smoldering fires which smolder for hours before bursting into flame.
- 120-volt VAC inter-connectable (with maximum 18 compatible devices). The alarm can be interconnected with up to 12 other compatible smoke alarms and six compatible devices like bells, horns, repeaters and door closers. If one unit triggers an alarm, all smoke alarms in the series will sound. Power indicators show which unit in the series initiated the alarm.
- Quick plug-in power connector for easy installation.
- 9-volt battery backup for peace of mind during power malfunction.
- Alarm indication which in an interconnected system, automatically identifies which unit initiated the alarm.
- Optipath 360 technology allows 360-degree access to the layer of air on the ceiling or wall that carries the fire signatures (smoke, combustion particles and volatile components).
- Single test/silence button which both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality.
- Locking feature for tamper resistance.
- 10-year limited warranty.
All BRK Electronics smoke alarms meet UL 217 standard and are listed with the California State Fire Marshal. They use the new UL mandated repeating 85-decibel alarm horn pattern. 10-year limited warranty.--Bree NorlanderWhat's in the Box One smoke alarm, one 9-volt battery, and user's manual

false alarms-- no more August 15, 2010 peter blake (boston) this alarm is much less prone to give false alarms than the ionization type alarm.
i put it near my kitchen and do not get any more false alarms.
rff15 August 1, 2010 RFCO As other reviewers have pointed out, quality control for this product is poor. One of the 3 units I purchased (33% fault rate) was faulty. For a safety item like a smoke alarm, this is enough reason to be skeptical of the manufacturer and their other products. AMAZON AS USUAL WAS FLAWLESS IN CUSTOMER SUPPORT. They replaced the item promptly and the new one works.
it failed and my ears are still ringing June 12, 2010 Janis Jaquith (Charlottesville, VA United States) I bought four of these alarms last September. Luckily, we have had no fires, so I cannot attest to whether or not they'll work to alert you to a real emergency. So far, I've been impressed that they NEVER go off while I'm cooking. Not even with the smokiest steak. However, we have one in the upstairs hallway that has gone off every morning this week. Four 4 out of 5 mornings, it happened shortly after a seldom-used bathroom had the shower running. This morning, the shower wasn't in use, but it went off at about the same time. It took me a few days to figure out which alarm was causing the trouble (the one with the red light illuminated - the others showed green). Meanwhile, I kept earplugs handy. Each time, the alarm lasted about 20 minutes before it stopped. This time, I couldn't find my earplugs and my head feels like a vibrating bell as I type this. And you know that "silence" button? Ha! Didn't do a thing. Out of desperation, I unplugged the unit from its housing in the ceiling. Took it outside - it kept ringing. Vacuumed it - it kept ringing. Took the battery out - aahh! Now I'm trying to see if I can get a free replacement from the manufacturer. I'll update this to report the outcome.
Would Recommend May 30, 2010 A. Pollard (Virginia) I purchased the 7010B model because it was the photoelectric type and had the battery backup. I did a lot of research and it seemed to me that the photoelectric are better. I saw other people that had problems with low battery chirping right out of the box and was concerned, because that is what was driving me crazy with our old BRK alarms. However, our old alarms were over 10 years old. There is a lot of talk about replacing the batteries on a regular basis, but very little talk about actually replacing the alarm which should be done every 7 to 10 years. I purchased 7 alarms and only one started chirping shortly after being installed. I changed the battery and have not had any other problems. These alarms come with batteries already in them, so even though there is a plastic strip you have to remove to activate the battery, I guess some are not going to be 100%. The installation was very simple as we were already wired for the BRK alarms. It took less then 20 minutes to change out all 7 alarms. I would recommend the BRK or First Alert brand (same company), however, DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Figure out what type of alarm will work best for your situation. There are 2 types of alarms, photoelectric and ionization. Also, make sure that whoever you order your alarm from tells you the manufacturer's date on the back of the alarm. They should be marked for the current year. Beware of cheaper alarms on ebay as many are outdated.
I haven't died in a conflagration yet. April 28, 2010 Damon Z. Cassell (Salem, MA USA) One of the hard-wired detectors in the house conked out, so I had to order another one. Seems fine. They chirp every now and then and I can't seem to pin-point what triggers that. Otherwise, no issues.
